Learn how to install and configure the Pedal Commander throttle response controller on your Abarth 595 or 695. Step-by-step setup, mode selection tips, and common mistakes to avoid.
Quick answer
Plug the Pedal Commander into your Abarth's OBD2 port, mount the control module, and cycle through four modes (Eco, City, Sport, Sport+) to find the throttle response you prefer. No special tools or wiring required.
Why a throttle response controller makes sense for your Abarth
Abarth 595 and 695 models already deliver punchy performance from their 1.4L turbo engines, but the factory throttle mapping introduces a slight delay between your foot and the engine. A throttle response controller like Pedal Commander eliminates that lag by sending the pedal signal directly to the ECU with adjustable sensitivity. The result is a sharper, more immediate feel without altering your engine's power output or voiding your warranty.
The controller offers four driving modes — Eco, City, Sport, and Sport+ — each with multiple adjustable levels. This lets you dial in anything from a relaxed daily commute to an aggressive track-like response, all from a compact module you can mount within easy reach.
Step-by-step setup
- 1. Locate the OBD2 port: The OBD2 port is under the dashboard on the driver's side, near the fuse box. Plug the Pedal Commander cable into this port. The connector is keyed, so it only fits one way — do not force it. If the connector doesn't seat fully, check for obstructions or a flipped orientation.
- 2. Mount the control module: Use the included adhesive pad or velcro to attach the module to a flat surface within reach, such as the side of the center console or under the steering wheel. Keep it away from moving pedals and heat vents. Test the module placement before peeling the adhesive backing — repositioning later is difficult.
- 3. Start the engine and select a mode: Turn the ignition on (engine running). The module lights up. Press the Mode button to cycle through Eco, City, Sport, and Sport+. Use the +/- buttons to adjust the intensity within each mode (0–9 levels). Sport+ offers the most aggressive response and is best suited for spirited driving or track use. Start with City mode for daily driving — it reduces the twitchiness of the pedal while still feeling responsive.
- 4. Secure the cable and test drive: Tuck any excess cable behind the dashboard trim or under the floor mat to prevent snagging. Take a short test drive in a safe area. Try each mode to feel the difference. You can switch modes on the fly, but avoid adjusting the controller while cornering or braking. If the vehicle feels jerky in Sport+, drop the level to 5 or lower — higher settings may overwhelm the tires in wet conditions.
