Learn how to install and use the Pedal Commander on your Lincoln Navigator to eliminate throttle lag and customize driving modes.
Quick Answer
Installing a Pedal Commander on your Lincoln Navigator takes about 10 minutes with no tools required, and lets you choose from four throttle response modes to match your driving style.
Why the Navigator Benefits from Throttle Control
The Lincoln Navigator is a full-size luxury SUV with a heavy curb weight and a large-displacement engine. Factory throttle mapping often introduces a noticeable delay between pressing the pedal and feeling the power, especially in stop-and-go traffic or when merging onto highways. The Pedal Commander eliminates that lag by adjusting the electronic throttle signal in real time.
Because the Navigator is used for everything from daily commutes to towing, having quick access to different throttle curves is a real advantage. You can soften the response in slippery conditions or sharpen it when you need to pass quickly.
Installation and Setup Steps
- Locate the Pedal Connector: Sit in the driver seat and reach behind the accelerator pedal. You will find the factory wiring connector clipped into the pedal arm. No tools are needed; just press the release tab and pull the connector free. The connector can be stiff on older Navigators. Wiggle gently side to side if it does not release immediately.
- Plug In the Pedal Commander: Take the Pedal Commander module and connect its male plug into the pedal socket you just freed. Then connect the module's female end into the accelerator pedal. Both connections click when fully seated. Make sure both connectors are fully locked. A loose connection can cause intermittent throttle response or error lights.
- Mount the Display Module: Use the included adhesive pad or hook-and-loop strip to attach the control display to a clean, dry surface within easy reach, such as the lower dash panel or the side of the center console. Route the cable so it does not interfere with your feet or the pedals. Avoid mounting the display where your knee might hit it during entry or exit. A spot just left of the steering column works well on most Navigators.
- Select Your Driving Mode: Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to be running). The Pedal Commander screen will light up. Use the Mode button to cycle through Eco, City, Sport, and Sport+ modes. Each mode has four adjustable levels (except Sport+ which has two). Start with City mode at level 2 for daily driving. Only use Sport+ on dry roads; it is very aggressive and may feel jerky in traffic.
- Test and Fine-Tune: Take a short test drive on a clear road. If the response feels too sharp or too dull, pull over safely and adjust the level up or down. The changes take effect instantly with no need to restart the vehicle. Write down your preferred mode and level for different conditions (e.g., City 2 for wet roads, Sport 3 for highway merging) so you can switch quickly without guessing.
