Learn how to install and tune the Pedal Commander on your Porsche Cayman to eliminate accelerator lag and customize throttle sensitivity.
Quick answer
The Pedal Commander for Porsche Cayman (2005-2025) plugs into the accelerator pedal connector and lets you adjust throttle response with 7 sensitivity modes. Installation takes about 10 minutes with no tools required.
Why adjust throttle response on a Cayman?
Many Cayman drivers notice a slight delay between pressing the accelerator and the engine reacting, especially in models with electronic throttle control. This lag can make the car feel less connected to your inputs. The Pedal Commander addresses this by modifying the signal from the pedal to the ECU, giving you sharper or smoother response depending on your preference.
What to expect from the 7 driving modes
The Pedal Commander offers 7 modes: Mode 0 is the factory default (no change), Modes 1-3 provide progressively faster response for sporty driving, and Modes 4-6 slow the response for smoother acceleration in slippery conditions or when you want to save fuel. The LED on the controller shows which mode is active.
Installation and setup steps
- 1. Locate the accelerator pedal connector: Under the dashboard, find the electrical connector attached to the accelerator pedal. It is a small plastic plug with a release tab. Press the tab and pull to disconnect. Common mistake: pulling the wires instead of the connector can damage the harness. Always grip the plug body.
- 2. Plug in the Pedal Commander: Insert the Pedal Commander module between the pedal connector and the vehicle harness. The module has two identical ends; either orientation works. Push until you hear a click. Check that the module is fully seated. A loose connection may cause intermittent response or error codes.
- 3. Route the cable and mount the controller: Tuck the module cable behind the dashboard trim. Place the controller button where you can reach it easily while driving, such as on the side of the center console. Use the included adhesive pad. Avoid placing the controller where your knee might bump it. An accidental mode change mid-corner can surprise you.
- 4. Test the factory mode: Start the engine and press the accelerator. The car should behave exactly as before. Press the controller button once; the LED blinks once for Mode 1 (sport) or twice for Mode 2, etc. If the LED does not respond, check the module connection. The controller draws power from the pedal circuit, so no battery is needed.
- 5. Choose your preferred mode: Cycle through modes by pressing the button. For daily driving, Mode 2 or 3 gives a noticeable improvement without being too aggressive. For wet roads, try Mode 5 or 6 to soften the pedal feel. Start with a lower number (faster response) and increase if the car feels too touchy. You can change modes while driving.
- 6. Secure the setup: Tuck any excess cable and press the controller firmly onto the mounting surface. Take a short test drive to confirm the mode feels right. If the controller comes loose, clean the surface with alcohol before reattaching the adhesive pad. The pad is reusable a few times.
